Soulard Bar Hop

Thankfully, the date and location for the June happy hour has already been set. We will start at Joanie's Pizzeria, and walk the 'hood to various bars as the urge strikes us. So, if you plan on coming down, make sure you have cell phone numbers so you can track us down at any given moment.

Looks Like I'm Headed To Harry's!

Hey Everyone See ya tonight at Harry's!
I know when I have been defeated.
Ron :-)

Harry's...

It looks like Harry's tonight. Feel free to weigh in on the comments link below if you plan on showing up.
I, for one, vote to change the name of the blog to "Maybe it's Last Thursday, maybe not - try to guess".  Secondly, I vote for tonight as I have plans next Thursday which would be the FIRST THURSDAY of the month.   Plans, yes, plans and I may not be the only one that has them - hence the name of LAST THURSDAYS!  Harry's is better than Bean House - sorry Ron - let's go to a good old fashioned bar.

Disgruntled,

Harry's Tonight or The Bean House next Thursday?

Hey did I make it to the Last Thursdays Blog page? What has happened to this group?
We use to know a month in advance where we were going the next month! I suggest we put it off till next Thursday and decide before Monday where we are going. I see we have one vote or Harry's on Southwest and Kingshighway. What about The Bean House on Lemay Ferry Rd. at Telegraph Rd. (just about 1 mile south of Bayless) They have great frozen margaritas and a huge outdoor patio so we can sit outside.
My suggestion is the Bean House for next Thursday, June 5th since we seem to be all undecided.
Please reply to me on Ed's Blog or to my e mail here at the PD

Hope to see all of you reeeeeeeeeal soooooooon!
Ron Hogue :-)

Also...a P.S. Bob Friedmeyer who now lives in Florida is turning 50 on June 17th. His wife has called me to see if any of his old pals would like to surprise him by showing up at a restaurant in Florida on Tuesday, June 17th. Glenda and I are planning on making the trip if anyone is interested. Also if anyone out there in Blogger land knows of someone who could get me some passes to Busch's Gardens in Florida I would greatly appreciate it!

Harry's?

Well, the last Thursday of the month is very close. How close depends on when you read this. So far, the only suggestion is from Tina, and that is we meet at Harry's. Any other ideas? Comments? Will anybody be there....?

2 E-Mail Posts from ??? (No Name on the Posts, but I have a few Guesses).

I think Paul was inspired by...hmmm....I dunno....that circle is just something - not as good as Monet, Picasso or Degasa but definately better than the circles my kids did in preschool but not by much.

Your idol will be at West County Mall on August 1st to pawn some of his art work - yes it's true - Paul Stanley - not only the lead singer of KISS but a painter. Please highlight some of his fantastic art on your blog being the number one fan that you are.

Happy Hour

Okay this is a test to see if I can post directly to the blog like Ed said. It looks like the next
happy hour is a week and a half
away. I suggest we meet at Harry's on Southwest.

One More

One more picture from the fishing trip (I know, the 21st century's version of watching someone's vacation slides-boring). There may actually be more if John ever sends some in...

Test Run of E-Mail Posts

I am testing a feature of the blog that allows e-mails to be posted directly on the blog. This way, people don't have to use the "comment" button (although you still can, and may want to, when commenting on specific posts.) This is a trial, and may be discontinued if it doesn't work well. When you send an e-mail to the address I sent everyone (not my personal e-mail, a special address specifically for this blog), it will post immediately to the blog. It does not go to a mailbox per se or to my personal e-mail, so make sure you want to post before you hit send! I can still delete it or edit it as I can other posts, if needed, but I don't see it before it hits the blog. Your subject line will appear as the headline of the post. As always, I'd like to hear what you think of this. If anyone needs the address, let me know.

Here are some pictures from the aforementioned fishing trip. Ed Hazelwonder, Vernon, John, and your's truly.

Vernon in his element

Paradise

This is Ed Hazelwonder's property just north of Mexico, MO. 60 acres with a 16 acre lake FULL of bass (and crappie, and bluegill). The fishing was a little better last year, but still very good. Thanks to Vernon for the photos (still waiting for some from John...)

Post from Tina

Thank you Mike and Norma for hosting a great party Saturday. It was greatfun celebrating Linda, Mike, John and Dennis's birthdays!Mike C. - I just found out that you had your tonsils taken out, I hopeyour feeling better.

Back to the Real World

After a few well deserved days of fishing, it's back to the blog. It's time to start discussing where to go this month, so bring on the comments. I hope to have fish pictures soon; meanwhile, it's time for a little old fashioned gloating on the imminent demise of our favorite power couple (don't they look happy?-Remember, this picture was taken at a "victory" celebration after the Indiana primary.)

Hillary in happier days, with our own Marilyn Beck, before Marilyn dumped her for Obama. This loss of the crucial "Marilyn Beck endorsement" will no doubt be seen by historians as the beginning of the end for Clinton.

Click on the headline above to read a great piece in The New York Times about the true Clinton legacy, written by someone who can hardly be called conservative. Below, a video from Politico.com:

Post from Norma (via Tina)

Did you see this? Tina was kind enough to forward to me... Bill
McClellan wrote another article today about Jeff. Awesome

Jeff Kowalski was a St. Louis police officer who was shot in the
stomach in 1987 while chasing two robbers. He had serious injuries to his pancreas, his liver and his stomach.

He eventually returned to duty but never regained his health. He suffered from periodic bouts of pancreatitis and had circulation problems. He was given a 100 percent service-connected disability when he retired in 2000.

He and his wife and their three children moved to Texas. Earlier this year, he was diagnosed with inoperable stage 4 cancer. He returned to St. Louis for treatment. Doctors here said the cancer appeared to have originated in his pancreas. Because of the internal injuries from the shooting, he had been unable to afford
life insurance.

If the cancer were to prove fatal, would the St. Louis BackStoppers be able to help? That organization provides support for families of police officers and firefighters who are killed in the line of duty.

An oncologist said it was impossible to say with certainty that the gunshot had caused the cancer, but he could say that Kowalski had no other risk factors, just the history of pancreatitis that seemed to stem from the gunshot.

Ron Battelle, executive director of the BackStoppers, said the board would consider the case if the cancer were to prove fatal but would have to consider its guidelines. Meanwhile, friends organized a fundraiser at the St. Louis Police Association headquarters. They raised $30,467 to help defray expenses.

Last week, the board of the BackStoppers approved a one-time payment of $50,000 to Kowalski under its Catastrophic Injury Program. "The board was happy and honored to help the Kowalski family," Battelle said.

Battelle told Kowalski that St. Louis Police Chief Joe Mokwa was instrumental in getting the board's approval. By the way, that award does not preclude more help if the cancer proves fatal.

Kowalski began chemotherapy treatments last week. I visited at his sister's home Wednesday. He seemed a little weak, but cheerful. "So far, so good," he said.

Final Decision

By unanimous decision (such as it is), there will be no happy hour tonight. We will all meet at Mike & Norma's Saturday night instead. On another note, there were some glitches on the links list that prevented people from going to some of the sites I had listed on there. It's fixed now. I know Mike's bookstore wasn't accessible before; it is now.
